New Milford [Litchfield County] was settled from Milford in 1707 and incorporated in 1712. Its Native American name is "Weantinock" or "Weantinogue."

Total area, 63.7 sq. miles, Land area, 61.6 sq. miles. Population, 2000 Census, 27,121. Voting districts, 7. Principal industries, processing of concentrated foods; manufacture and processing of paper products; electronics and precision instruments production.

New Milford includes the area known as Gaylordsville.
